The goal of this ESR project are: (1) to advance a more holistic understanding of the two key steps involved in the biodegradation of polymer films in soils: microbial colonization of the polymer films and depolymerisation of the films by extracellular microbial hydrolases. (2) To quantify the degradation rates of biodegradable polymer material due to microbial degradation.
